Assigned seats will be given to deadline media in the Walt Glathaar Deadline Media Room next to the officials at the oval track, and in the main press box at the drag strip. Non-deadline media personnel, Team PR representatives and photojournalists filing their images from the track will be allocated space in the main media center room of the oval or the media trailer opposite the staging lanes.

CREDENTIAL PICKUP

Media credentials may be picked up starting the Thursday before each major event. The credentials pickup trailers are located in the the parking lot outside Turn 3 of the facility’s oval. Signs will be posted at the interchanges for Gateway to take you to the location. Media credentials will NOT be issued at the Infield Media Center.

PARKING

During oval track events, parking for media members will be provided in the infield parking lot located behind the paddock/garage area, with additional space in the Orange North Lot. NOTE: There will be space along the front row of the infield parking lot for designated television satellite trucks and auxiliary vehicles. St. Louis-area stations will be given two spots, one for a satellite truck and one for a vehicle that can go through the tunnel. Other stations will be given one space. It is recommended that local stations keep a satellite truck parked through the event weekend and move personnel in and out of the track through the infield tunnel using regular vehicles. Those vehicles cannot go through the tunnel (nine-foot-high clearance) may enter and exit through the backstretch entrance only when the track is cold.

During drag strip events, parking will be located in the hospitality area to the south of the staging lanes behind the drag tower.

TELEPHONES

Telephones are plentiful and located throughout the media center. Those phones can be used to call in the area (618, 314, 636) and toll free numbers. The phones are to be shared and used on a first come-first serve basis. If you have a specific need for a dedicated line, contact Ev Nelson at (615) 547-7500 to order service.

FAX/COPY SERVICE

Fax and copy machines will be available in the Media Center at both the oval ad drag tower. Those media members and Team PR reps needing either service may ask one of the Gateway Media Center volunteers for assistance. Any media member with special needs should contact a member of the Gateway PR staff to make the proper arrangements.

INTERVIEWS

The pole winner for each oval track event will be brought to the Media Center deadline room. For those on tight deadlines, there will be an area behind the Victory Circle where the winners will be made available for a brief period before going to the general interview area. We request that all interviews held in the Victory Circle are brief.

During the NHRA event, the drivers holding the No. 1 qualifying sports will be brought to the Media Center for interviews. After eliminations, all pro class winners will also be brought to the Media Center.

PIT NOTES

Results, daily pit notes, quotes, and announcements will be distributed in the media center by GIR officials, team, and manufacturer representatives.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

During oval track races, there are several areas designated for photographers. There will be marked photo stands set up in each corner of the oval to photographers. The stands will be marked “For Media Use Only” and will be patrolled by security on a regular basis. The lane behind Pit Road is also open to photographers. Photographers may go into pit areas if cleared with a team’s crew chief, but are asked to exercise caution and discretion, giving sufficient space for crew members to do their job. A limited area on the balcony of the Oval Suite Tower will be designated for limited use by the media. A signup sheet for those interested in shooting from this area is located in the GIR office. No photography is allowed from outside the oval without permission of Gateway officials. Anyone caught cutting holes in the fence surrounding the oval will forfeit their credential and be removed from the facility.

Victory circle will be limited to one photographer per media outlet, with exceptions granted on a case-by-case basis by GIR and sanctioning body officials. There will be a photographers meeting held on the day of each major event to discuss these policies and any questions photographers have.

During the NHRA event, photographers will be allowed on each side of the drag strip in an area from the starting line to no farther than 200 feet down the track. Photographers may not put any equipment along the retaining wall of use strobes when shooting any place around the track.

PHOTO VESTS

All photographers must wear a numbered Gateway photo vest. This is for your safety as well as security. The vests may be obtained from the GIR office in the Media Center. As deposit, a credit card number or check for $75 must be given when obtaining the vest. Upon returning the vest, all checks will be destroyed or returned to the photographer. Photographers will have access to the infield during race weekend, but are requested to respect the working space of the teams in the garage area and the haulers.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

This is a working media area. You are asked to give your fellow media members the respect, and quiet, they need to do their jobs, especially during deadline periods. You are also asked to give the teams the space they need to do their jobs. Media members should not enter garage areas, or haulers, unless given permission to do so by team members. Those with media credentials referred to the GIR PR staff by teams or sanctioning bodies for unprofessional conduct (asking for autographs, souvenirs, etc.) may be asked to leave the premises and forfeit their credential. It is also asked that if you have had your credential request confirmed, but are unable to attend, please contact the GIR PR staff to cancel the credential. Multiple no-shows could result in your organization losing its credentials priveleges for GIR events.
